Coding Club 2.0

Who Can Join

  • All 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students are eligible regardless of previous Coding Club participation. 
  • No coding experience is necessary. 
  • You must have a desire to learn more about programming, a willingness to participate in group projects, and want to get more “play-time” on a computer.
  • Due to the structure of our lessons you must be able to commit to arriving at school on time at 8:00 am.
  • You must commit to attending every meeting except in the event of an unforeseen school excused absence.


Meeting Dates and Times

     Tracks 1 & 4  will meet  August 3rd - September 7th
     Tracks 2 & 3  will meet  September 14 - October 19th 
     
     Meetings will be held Wednesday mornings in the Media Center from 8 am to 9 am.  Students 
     may only attend meetings during their Track's assigned time. 

Registration Dates

     Track 4 Registration June 6 - June 17 
     Track 1, 2 and 3 Registration July 11 - July 22
     ***Please note Track 4 must register this school year starting June 6***


How to Apply

     Students must submit an APPLICATION and an ESSAY no later than end of school on the 
     following dates:
          June 17 for Track 4  
          July 22 for Tracks 1, 2 & 3.
                    Late applications will NOT be accepted.

     The topic for the student written essay is:  "If I learn to code, I would write an app that 
     would....and why".  Selection criteria for club membership will be based on the essay, member 
     diversity, and lottery if needed.

     We are accepting 60 students this year.  

     You can download an application HERE or pick one up from the PTA bulletin board next to 
     the Media Center. 

     Submit applications AND essays to the front office.


Important Information If You Are Selected

     This year we are collecting annual dues for course materials, prizes, and copy fees.  
     Scholarships may be awarded on a case-by-case basis.

     Annual Dues of $10 will be due at your Track's first meeting ONLY if you are accepted. Checks 
     should be made payable to Brassfield PTA.  

     You will be notified via e‐mail if you have been selected no later than July 29th. 

     If you are selected the following forms must be signed and returned no later than your 
     track's first meeting: Student Contract, Parent Contract, and Consent for Use of Technology.
